Profile & Objectives

"A Treasury of Music from our Historic Past"

WELCOME! Musique Royale is a summertime celebration of Nova Scotia's musical heritage. A cross-province festival now in its 23rd season, Musique Royale brings performances of early and traditional music take place in settings of historic and cultural significance in communities ranging from the small fishing towns of the South Shore to the magnificent highlands of Cape Breton. Just as the french and english overtones in the festival's name refer to the presence of more than one cultural force in Nova Scotia's musical development, Musique Royale pays tribute to the province's diverse musical heritage.

The Boxwood Festival and Workshop, July 19-25, 2008 in Lunenburg brings together an exciting line-up of artists from across the spectrum of traditional folk, baroque, renaissance and dance for a week of classes, performances, sessions and social dances. This remarkable event is renowned word-wide as one of the top educational summer programmes centering on traditional and early music, and Musique Royale is pleased to present it.

In addition to celebrating Nova Scotia's musical heritage, Musique Royale has other important objectives. Its concerts feature local, national, and international performers of a world-class level and the festival aims to reach out to people who would not normally have access to this calibre of performer. Our educational work in presenting Boxwood serves the local, national, and international spheres. Finally, Musique Royale aims to build a sense of community amongst the province's towns and cities and to introduce visitors to our rich musical and architectural heritage.

Wherever you are in Nova Scotia this summer, Musique Royale has a concert for you! We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event . . .
