About
Do you dare to immerse yourself in the marvellous world of love, to explore the Spanish music of the 17th and 18th centuries? Musique Royale invites you to ‘Música, Danza y Amor’ by Spanish baroque ensemble Harmonia del Parnàs, who will transport you into the universe of love and dance. The performance spans the dynamic arch of the baroque era, starting the concert with more pure Hispanic Baroque music featured, and moving towards a full Baroque sound, where the influences of Italian style and incipient Classicism of the end of the century is evident.
Concerts are led by director and harpsichordist Marian Rosa Montagut, and feature soprano Ruth Rosique, violinist Lucía Luque, and cellist Hermann Schreiner. The concert tour with Harmonia del Parnàs is part of Musique Royale’s 40th Summer Festival, with performances at historic venues in Tatamagouche, Wolfville, Lunenburg and Yarmouth.
What you will hear:
The ensemble will perform a selection of the Canzonette italiane by the most universal Valencian composer, Vicente Martín y Soler (1754-1806), whose melodies were copied by Mozart himself! Anonymous dance suites will also be performed, together with compositions dealing with love, infidelity, falling in love, disillusionment, and more, all very representative of the Italian style in Spain in the first half of the 18th century by composers such as Antonio Literes, Francesco Hernández y Llana and Francisco Corradini, among others.
About Harmonia del Parnàs:
Founded in 2003 by harpsichordist Marian Rosa Montagut, Spanish baroque ensemble Harmonia del Parnàs performs repertoire prior to 1800 with historically informed criteria, respecting the aesthetical and theoretical particularities that match each period and location. The ensemble has released eight CD’s and performed extensively across Europe and America. This repertoire is carefully selected through musicological research conducted with musical sources and documents from archives and libraries worldwide, and it gathers pieces from different genres by Hispanic authors from the 15th to the 17th centuries to create performances that result in a delicate balance between historical musicology and musical creativity.
