About the Artists
Philip Chiu – piano
Winner of the 2023 JUNO award for Solo Classical Album of the Year, Canadian pianist Philip Chiu forges authentic connections with audiences through pianistic brilliance and engaging storytelling. Described as “a pianist-painter who transforms each musical idea into a beautiful array of colours” (La Presse), Philip has become one of Canada’s leading musicians through his passion for creation and communication.
Philip has performed across North America, Europe, and Asia as soloist and chamber musician, with collaborators including James Ehnes, Emmanuel Pahud, Bomsori Kim, Johannes Moser, and Jonathan Crow. A veteran Canadian touring artist, he has performed in nearly every major Canadian venue.
Beyond the stage, Philip is deeply involved in musical life as a mentor, juror, educator and arts ambassador. He has coached extensively at McGill University, l’Université de Montréal and served on the collaborative faculty of the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, and as artistic collaborator for institutions including the Honens International Piano Competition, CBC / Radio-Canada, l’Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Montreal International Music Competition, Jeunesses Musicales Canada and CBC Music.
Philip is represented by Andrew Kwan Artists Management.
Clement Fulton – piano
Thirteen-year old Clement Fulton’s affinity with the piano started as soon as he was tall enough to touch the keys, taking time to slowly discover music on an upright at home. Following early lessons at the Suzuki School, he met Barbara Butler, who nurtured his love of harmony, improvisation and singing. Since the autumn of 2025 Clement has been a student of Philip Chiu.
“Since meeting Barbara we have spent many hundreds of hours seated at the piano together. Barbara taught me to read music and also how to feel music. She showed me that the piano can be my future and inspired my love of Bach. Studying with Philip has taught me the importance of empathy, resilience and patience, in my music practice and in life. It has been beautiful to sink into these compositions during the last winter months.”
